Juror Statement – Mick McAndrews

It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve as juror of selection for the 2024 Vermont Watercolor Society’s Spring Show.  I find it particularly gratifying to be engaged with the great state of Vermont’s finest watercolor artists.  I would like to applaud every artist who submitted their work for consideration because it takes a lot of courage to put yourself and your work in front of the public.  I found the submitted work to be competent, exciting, uniquely individual and I found it challenging to select a limited number required for the exhibition.  My selection criteria were based on good design and compositional skills as well as a unique vision and storytelling ability.  I looked further for an emotional connection that brought me into the painting, showcased the hand of the artist and that brought me, and that I hope will bring the viewing audience, great joy!
