Artists Bio: I graduated from the University of Vermont in 1971 with a history major and art minor specializing in stone lithography under the direction of Bill Davison. I taught special education, industrial arts, and middle school technology education for thirty seven years in Brattleboro retiring in 2009. I also coached high school cross country and track and field at BUHS for 42 years and had a good personal running career during that time, qualifying for three Olympic trials, winning a couple of national championships and competing throughout the United States and around the world.
I have enjoyed drawing drawing all of my life. I started watercolor painting after I retired from teaching. As a native Vermonter my world is a product of years of running and hiking through the hills and fields of Vermont. In my paintings I try to recreate the fleeting impressions that these experiences leave in my mind. Recently I’ve started working in the more detailed impressions of working places that reflect my teaching career and urban landscapes that I’ve experienced when I travel.
My work has been juried into many art shows in the region and my paintings are part of private collections throughout the country. “Lester’s World” received the Holbein Award of Merit at the Green Mountain Watercolor Exhibition in 2022 and was accepted into the North American Open Watercolor Exhibition. You can find my work at Vermont Artisans Designs, a gallery on Main Street in Brattleboro or by contacting me at jsdimick @yahoo.com.
