Artists Bio:

Using brilliant, saturated color, Carrie’s watercolors highlight the vibrancy of everyday life in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom. She works from photographs and sketches, and often paints landscapes “en plein air.” Carrie’s subject matter ranges from landscapes, structures, and interiors, to wildlife and pets. Her detailed, realistic paintings are built up slowly with the application of many transparent washes, and often finished with small touches of opaque “body color.” Each painting requires many hours of work, and captures the varied textures of the scene.

Although she began college as an art major, life led Carrie into a career as a summer camp director in Vermont. The pandemic in 2020 provided a chance to re-immerse herself in the creative process, and drawn to the exacting nature of the medium, she began exploring watercolors. Since that time, Carrie has developed her skills through study with instructor Carol Douglas, among others; and has had her work included in several juried shows and a solo exhibition. In order to better understand her materials, Carrie has also undertaken an in-depth study of watercolor pigments and historical watercolor painting, and is developing a presentation on watercolor in the early 1800s.

As a life-long educator, Carrie enjoys teaching watercolor, drawing, and composition to children and adults; and also welcomes commissions including portraits of pets and family homes. She offers direct sales of framed and unframed artwork and prints from her website, carrieglessnerart.com.
